Answer. BSERI stands for "Business Systems Education & Research Institute". It is an entrepreneurial venture soft-launched in September 2015. BSERI focuses on practical training related to ISO Management System Standards (MSS). Its journey began with ISO 27001:2022 (Information Security Management System) and ISO 22301:2012 (Business Continuity Management System) training for Tata Consulting Services (TCS) in Chennai.

What is BSERI engaged in?

BSERI’s main focus is education and research in the field of Management System Standards (MSS). These standards are mostly based on international and national standards, such as ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), ISO 27001:2022 (Information Security Management System), and ISO 22301:2022 (Business Continuity Management System).

Why include “Business Systems” in the name?

BSERI’s approach goes beyond implementing ISO MSS as standalone projects. "Business Systems" represents an overarching concept where ISO MSS work in synergy with business processes. BSERI stages ISO standards to help organizations better understand the requirements of their business systems and not just ISO certification.

Training and Course Offerings

When you say “Education,” do you mean “training”?

Answer. Yes, education in BSERI includes training, but the term “education” was carefully chosen to reflect the broader scope of knowledge acquisition and dissemination. BSERI conducts training programs on ISO MSS, but its vision extends beyond that, offering continuous learning in this domain.

What courses will you offer?

Answer. BSERI will offer ISO MSS Implementer Courses, focusing on popular ISO standards like ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 22301. The courses aim to bridge the gap in implementation competence, which is often missing in Lead Auditor courses.

How is BSERI different from other training institutions?

Answer. Unlike other institutions that focus mainly on Lead Auditor courses, BSERI offers ISO MSS Implementer Courses. These courses target implementation competence, which is critical for effective use of ISO standards in organizations, rather than just preparing professionals for audits.

What is the first training course BSERI will launch?

Answer. BSERI plans to launch two courses simultaneously: ISO 27001 Implementation and ISO 22301 Implementation. These will be followed by ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Implementation Courses.

Are your courses open to the public?

Answer. Yes, BSERI’s courses will be available to the general public, targeting professionals from various industries who need to enhance their knowledge and skills in ISO MSS implementation.

Does BSERI compete with consultants offering implementation training?

Answer. No, BSERI complements consultants by providing ISO MSS Implementation courses, which enhance consultants' skills and marketability. Consultants can use these courses to improve their understanding and situational leadership in implementing ISO MSS.

Can a consultant benefit from BSERI's implementation courses?

Answer. Yes, BSERI’s courses are designed to bridge gaps in understanding across various verticals, helping consultants develop deeper knowledge and interoperable intelligence in ISO MSS implementation.

Are your courses open to the public?

Trainers and Competence

What about your trainers? How do you evaluate their competence before they are assigned trainer responsibilities?

Answer. BSERI has strict competency requirements for its trainers, including relevant ISO MSS experience, communication skills, and the ability to handle diverse participant groups. All trainers must pass the Management Systems Foundation (MSF) examination before being approved to deliver training.

What is the Management Systems Foundation (MSF) Examination?

Answer. The MSF Examination is BSERI’s flagship course that covers the baseline requirements of various ISO MSS. It ensures that trainers and participants have a solid foundation in management systems, enabling them to teach or implement ISO standards effectively.

Examinations and Certifications

Who conducts the exam for determining the competence and issuing certificates to qualified candidates?

Answer. Certification exams are conducted by GLOMAS (Institute of Management Systems Competence Assessments), an independent Competence Assessment Body that is not affiliated with BSERI's training process. GLOMAS evaluates candidates’ competence based on exam results and issues certificates accordingly.

Why doesn’t BSERI conduct the examinations at the end of the course?

Answer. BSERI maintains operational independence between its training services and certification processes. GLOMAS, an independent body, handles the examinations to ensure fairness and integrity. This separation ensures BSERI remains focused solely on providing high-quality training.

Does BSERI give certificates to participants who qualify?

Answer. Yes, BSERI gives certificates to those who complete the course and pass a mock exam. However, the formal qualification and certification process is conducted by GLOMAS, ensuring an unbiased evaluation process.

What accreditation will BSERI go for in the ISO MSS courses it conducts?

Answer. While BSERI offers ISO MSS Implementer Courses, which currently don’t have the same accreditation structure as Lead Auditor courses, it ensures that its courses meet the competence requirements for practical ISO MSS implementation, addressing gaps in the training ecosystem.
